My work begins with things I encounter in the physical world: the ground, walls, and the superficial qualities of living things. I am drawn to surfaces that evoke a sense of the passage of time, transformation, and the presence of life.
Observing these materials sparks my process.
I'm often pulled in by the textures of natural elements, like wood, stone or the earth, where erosion and decay leave their traces. Once my eyes settle on something that interests me, I focus on one partition, enlarging and isolating its details to reveal some undiscovered patterns. My curiosity lies in discovering the overlooked qualities within things that we might normally pass by without noticing.
Through a process of layering colour and material, the surface gradually transforms. As I repeat similar gestures and patterns, a steady rhythm develops, giving way to a meditative experience. Rather than assigning it a particular meaning, I translate my initial feeling directly into form. Although the work always drifts from its original subject, the sensations and experiences I gained from it remain within.
